Before your dog’s boarding stay, don’t forget to send your pet’s veterinary shot records to mountaindogshots@gmail.com and please fill out the form at www.mountaindogspa.com/registration to register your pet with us and provide updated contact information. All vaccinations must be up-to-date including Bordetella, Distemper/Parvo, and Rabies.
What should I bring for my dog’s boarding stay?
There are three categories of items to consider bringing for your pet’s boarding stay: Food, Medicine, and Comfort Items.
Food
Please do not bring any personal bowls for feeding. We provide bowls for all dogs. We can also provide a slow-feed bowl upon request.
Please bring the dry and/or wet food your dog eats at home. We want to offer them the same eating experience at Mountain Dog Spa that they receive at home.
New foods or treats should not be introduced to your dog during his or her stay to prevent upset stomach.
Please bring enough food for your dog during his stay with us. We have in-house food available to feed your pet if needed for an additional $5 per day charge.
Medicine/Supplements
If your dog will be administered medication that has been prescribed by a veterinarian during his or her stay, please bring the medicine in the original packaging. Supplements can be placed in ziplock bags, or left in original containers. Please provide either written instructions, or a detailed explanation when checking in your dog. At check in, a sheet will be provided where you can write detailed feeding and medication instructions.
Comfort Items
Comfort items that you bring for your dog’s stay will be placed in his or her private kennel.
You may choose to bring your dog’s bed or blanket. If you choose not to bring bedding from home, we will provide bedding or a cot for your dog’s stay free of charge. Please, don’t bring any oversized beds that won’t fit in a laundry machine. Easy laundering is important for your dog’s stay at camp.
What do the boarding dogs do all day?
Your dog will enjoy his or her stay in our ultra-clean indoor kennels. Each dog has plenty of room to move around, stretch, drink water, and sleep in their very own 6 foot long x 4 foot wide indoor run or comfortable crate. Any toys, beds or other belongings that you bring for your dog will be placed in his or her private kennel.
Boarding dogs are let outside in the play yards for their first social time of the day at 7 a.m. During this time, each dog’s kennel will be cleaned. When all of the kennels are cleaned, the dogs will come inside. After a brief rest period, breakfast is served. Morning medications will be administered if needed at this time.
Following breakfast, a rest period begins. Boarding dogs that have undergone training at Mountain Dog Spa to learn the “place” command will begin “place.” All other dogs will relax in their kennels. You can visit our training resource page to learn more about this training. “Place” will stay down until 9:30 a.m. At this time, boarding dogs that participate in place will return to their kennels and play groups will begin.
Play groups will begin their rotation at 9:45 a.m. Each dog enjoys play time outside in the play yards. Each dog is placed in a specific group that is determined based on size, temperament and dog friendships. Play groups are created to ensure the dogs are comfortable, safe, and with their best friends when playing outside. Dogs whose playgroup is not outside are in their own kennel resting and getting ready for their group. 12 p.m. is when lunch or lunchtime medication will begin to be served to those that require it.
Play groups will remain in constant rotation throughout the day. This allows the dogs to get maximum outside time. Dog groups take turns exploring each of our outdoor spaces before coming back inside for a rest period. The cycle of play and rest will continue until 4 p.m. At this time all dogs that know the “place” command will return to place until 5 p.m. as the other dogs rest in their kennel awaiting dinnertime.
Dinner meals will begin to be distributed at 5:00 p.m. Any boarding dogs requiring evening medication will receive their evening dose with this meal. Dogs will have their dinner and enjoy a rest period while the building is cleaned top to bottom and the outdoor play spaces are sanitized.
The final social hour of the day for boarding dogs begins at 7 p.m. This allows them to play one final time and serves as an opportunity for them to use the bathroom. After their evening social time, they will return to their kennels for the night. The kennel attendants do a final walk through to ensure that all dogs are safe, content, and have everything they need for the night. We have a staff member that remains in the building overnight while the dogs are asleep, providing extra security and care if needed.
